Soccer is really important in Brazil. Most boys at the age of two, get a soccer ball as a gift. There are some soccer championships every year all around the country, where many teams play.
In Rio they start the year with Guanabara Cup, where all teams in the state take part in. Vasco won this last season cup. Guanabara is followed by the Rio Cup. Both championships are part of the Carioca’s state league.
At the same time, there is Copa do Brasil, which is a national league playoff where all brazilian teams from every division play. Cruzeiro was the champion in both 2018 and 2017.
Brasileirão is the most important tournament. It takes place from May until December. Last year Palmeiras was the winner. Chances are that Flamengo or Palmeiras will win this time, according to a fan website called Soccer Predictions (https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/soccer-predictions/brasileirao).
All in all, Brazilian soccer season has many different tournaments and each one of them has its relevance.
Soccer is the game that all kids grow up playing.
