What is VSCO and why people are so fascinated by it?
Many people have no idea what VSCO is. Maybe they have seen a link with VSCO’s name on an Instagram bio, or the meme “VSCO girl”, but still, people may have no clue about what this is. In this article, all your doubts and questions will be answered.
Created in 2012 with the purpose of being a photo editor, camera, and a platform to share the photos taken, VSCO stands for Visual Supply Company. VSCO offers the users incredible photo options, for taking and editing, and that’s the main reason people use it. Another reason why people like it so much is that VSCO is more of a community app for the ones who love photographs, having a canvas that is similar to Instagram’s.
Some other options and tools available at VSCO are: selecting favorites pictures; creating albums; keeping a journal with pictures and texts - this option is only available for IOS.
Another interesting and important point to keep in mind is that the app has no ads, there is no following option or “likes” count.
Recently, the idea of a girl who uses VSCO has been misconstructed. That is mainly, a consequence of a video called “The ultimate VSCO sleepover”. The girls who made the video explain that people can “be” VSCO. Other girls with the same habits - like wearing scrunchies (hair band), using a hydro flask(water bottle), joining causes to save turtles - were inspired by these two, and now they call themselves VSCO girls, or VSCO boys.
However, not all VSCO users feel the same way. “ VSCO is a place where you post creative pictures, it’s not about if you use scrunchies or not” says Isabela Sillero, 9th grader, and a VSCO user.
In 2018, VSCO surpassed 30 million overall users and 1 million paid subscribers, according to App Store registers. The memes are giving more popularity to the app as well, and it’s known that a lot of people are joining VSCO because of them.
