These past two weeks have been very exciting for many of us, especially for the school athletes. High School students had the PSAT, the first pep rally hosted at the Barra Campus, Halloween, and the most awaited event of the year: Big 8. Athletes from eight different international schools in Brazil meet at NR to compete for the basketball, soccer and cheerleading medals, going two for two to see which one will take the trophies home.
To begin with, the Halloween events that were organized by the PTA and the student-lead clubs were an absolute success! Students and parents came to enjoy all different types of booths, escape rooms and trick or treat all over the school campuses.

The following day, our basketball athletes and our cheerleaders headed to Big 8, and after hours on the bus, arrived at NR. It was finally the time for all of them to show what they were capable of, especially the cheerleaders, who were competing for the first time. EARJ Athletics is happy to announce that, last Wednesday, we brought two gold medals back, one from the boys’ basketball team and the other from our cheerleaders!

Even after the unprecedented events due to the elections, our soccer teams still made their way to NR safely, and so did our basketball teams and cheerleaders back to Rio. Both the girls and boys soccer team made an excellent job competing against the EAB Bulls for the bronze medal, and they all did sublimely!
This is a moment that so many of us waited for throughout the school semester, and sadly, it will be the last NR competition for basketball, soccer and cheerleading for many of our seniors. Even though we will have to say goodbye to some, we will also greet new people to the teams! This year, we are proud of bringing three medals back home, two golds and one bronze from the boys soccer team, and to celebrate this major achievement, we had the Big 8 Award homecoming celebration at both campuses just a few days ago. Congratulations to everyone who participated in these events!
