Brazil’s Debut Match

As of November 20th, the FIFA World Cup 2022 - the biggest soccer tournament on the planet, contested by thirty-two qualified national soccer teams - has started, kicking off with a beautiful starting ceremony in this year’s host country: Qatar.

Before the World Cup began, countries had to participate in the qualifying tournaments held in the FIFA confederations of each respective continent to be eligible. The groups in which the teams would be playing were announced prior to the event, so as to create tension and excitement in the whole world. The teams that managed to get in were separated into eight groups, named after the letters A, B, C, D, E, F, G, and H.

On Thursday, November 24th, Brazil had its first match-up against Serbia, a well-built team with a solid defensive side. The first half was very equal, with both teams shooting at the goal but either missing or being saved by the goalkeeper. But in the second half, it started to get interesting. Around minute 61, Neymar dribbled until reaching the goal but was not able to find a clear shot, so he passed it to Vinicius Jr. who shoots it toward the goal, but Vanja Savic, Serbia’s goalkeeper, saves it and redirected the ball toward Richarlson who scores a tap in, making the score 1x0 for Brazil.

After the long and enduring ball possession throughout the game, the Brazilian soccer team was finally able to get another attack going. Vinicius Jr. had the ball and was running up the left wing getting past the enemy defender, then passed it to Richarlison who was standing in the area, sent the ball up, and finished with a beautiful scissor kick. This sent the game to 2x0 for Brazil making them the winners of the match and adding 3 more points to Brazil's total.

The World Cup has been a great success thus far, with matches exciting the public and bringing the community together to watch the games. Tomorrow, Brazil will be playing against Cameroon, their last game for the first phase. Let’s all hope to see the best result!
