The United Nations Environment Program aims at eradicating pollution by 2030, and many countries have taken measures against it.
On the first of November, Brazil’s Minister of Environment, Joaquim Leite, stated that the new goal for the reduction of pollutant gases by 2030 went from 43% to 50%. This was officialized in COP26, the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference, happening from October 31st to November 12th, 2021 in Glasgow. “Uniting the world to tackle climate change” is the main focus of the Conference.
Brazil also changed its goal to end illegal deforestation from 2030 to 2028. Their goal is to have a gradual reduction of 15% from 2022 to 2024 then going up to 40% in 2025 and 2026 until eventually reaching no illegal deforestation in 2028.
"Brazil’s contributions to overcome this challenge is set. There will be no lack of commitment from the federal government to achieve a positive result. Today we present a new, more ambitious climate target, going from 43% to 50% by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2050, which will be formalized during COP26,” stated Leite.
