Childhood Cancer Awareness

Updated: Jan 5, 2022

During the month of September we raise awareness on childhood cancer. It is important to reinforce that people should be aware of the diseases all year long, not only during specific months, but actually to remember about specific issues a lot of people go

through in their lives.

Pediatric cancer remains the leading cause of death for children under the age of 14. In the UK and Ireland, around five children are diagnosed with cancer each week. That's around 1820 per year.

There are still some childhood cancers with a poor outlook, and many treatments can have long lasting side effects that may significantly impact their lives forever.

This month - and throughout the year - we honor the children currently battling cancer, the families who love them, the clinicians and other caregivers treating them, the survivors of

childhood cancer, the children who lost their lives to childhood cancer, and the researchers working to conquer childhood cancer. All months are represented by a colored ribbon, and this month couldn't be any different. Childhood cancer is represented by the gold color.
