Copa do Brasil’s 2022 Winner

Copa do Brasil is a famous sports event that happens yearly in Brazil, where teams from different places in the country participate in a tournament-style competition.

Globo attracted its largest football audiences in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro since 2019 with its coverage of the Copa do Brasil final, which saw Flamengo defeat Corinthians on penalties following a 1-1 draw in-game time. Not only was it the highest-viewed program in sports transmissions but also the highest-viewed program on TV this year. In Rio de Janeiro, 63% of the viewers were cheering for Flamengo, with the rest of Rio making up the 27% cheering for Corinthians. Safe to say, the majority was pleased with the results.

The Copa's final consists of 2 matches, both held at each team’s home field respectively. The first match was in Neo Química Arena, the home stadium for Corinthians in São Paulo, SP. The game ended with no points made by either team, but Flamengo had more overall stats. Flamengo had 19 shots, 6 shots on target, 56% ball control, and 495 passes, while Corinthians had 13 shots, 3 shots on target, 44% ball control, and 389 passes. The second match was a bit more exciting, with Pedro Guilherme, from the Flamengo team, scoring a goal in the 7th minute of the first half, and Giuliano Victor de Paula, from the Corinthians team, scoring to tie the game in the 82nd minute of the second half. The penalties started with Cassio Ramos, Corinthians’ goalkeeper, who defended the first kick from F. Luis while Fábio Santos scored in Flamengo's goal. Everyone else made it until the 4th kick, where Fagner from Corinthians missed the penalty tying the game once more. After a couple of kicks with everyone scoring them, it came to M. Vitals' kick, but he ended up missing. However, Rodinei scored, making Flamengo the winner of Copa do Brasil for the fourth time.

To sum it up, there were two matches, both ending in ties. The first match has a final score of 0-0, resulting in a rising anxiety within all fanbases. The second match ended at 1-1 after a very anticipated and tightly scored goal by Corinthians. Despite the games ending in ties, Famengo won both of them following certain technicalities, making this the fourth Copa do Brasil they've won.
