The 2022-2023 school year has already shown great promise for student led organizations. The excitement also extends to our very own school newspaper. In late August, both EARJ campuses agreed on a merger between Gávea’s JAM (Journalism, Advertisement & Media) and Barra’s Panther Press. This merger, suggested by Dr. Nigel, was proposed as a way to unify both campuses and create a bigger and better news outlet that would use a combination of different mediums to engage with students. After several discussions about what this new, combined organization should be called, both parties agreed to convene under the Panther Press name.
The new and improved Panther Press will keep publishing monthly editions of our physical newspaper and uploading the articles to our soon-to-be-launched website. In addition, the Gávea chapter of the club will keep doing what they were focusing on, audiovisual content. Both campuses will still have the same content as before, plus a slew of new ways to engage with students and additional columns. Panther Press will also research what EARJ students are interested in and want to read. Therefore, if you have any suggestions or comments, please feel free to contact any member of the club.
In conclusion, this merger promises to create new and exciting opportunities for club members and the EARJ community. All in all, this union between campuses also opens the door for more intercampus partnerships and collaborations that would strengthen our school spirit as a unified EARJ community.
