It takes some confidence to participate in competitions. Athletes need to have discipline to practice, learn the strategies, avoid distractions, and have a good night sleep, to rest their bodies and minds. Guidance and encouragement from coaches are also necessary, as well as support from their families.
In February, Mr. Felipe Portilho and his 7th grade mathletes Otto Andrade and Felipe Onni, alongside with Ms. Sonia Jannuzzi’s students from the Gavea Campus, traveled to Paraná to represent EARJ at the Mathcounts Competition. Mathletes from many different American/International Schools all over Brazil gathered in ISC, International School of Curitiba, for this challenging competition series. There were 4 rounds total; Sprint, Target, Team, and Count-down.
EARJ ended at 6th place on Team Round, and Tiago Nogueira won 6th place on Individual category. “This was an intense competition, and I am very proud of students’ hard work”, said Mr. Felipe. The Panther Press Team congratulates the students and coaches for your commitment, effort, and fantastic results!
