To start of the year off in style, our guest for this edition's interview is the one and only Mr. Maciel, Upper School Math and Science/Chemistry Teacher. Geraldo Ferreira Maciel Junior is 36 years old, born and raised in Petrópolis, married to Ana Carolina, who is also a teacher and they are parents of 3 . . . cats! Run away from him if you happen to have sour patch or icebreakers! We hope you enjoy learning a bit more about this super fun teacher, Mr. Maciel.
PP: For how long have you been teaching?
GM: For 12 very long years.
PP: What is your favorite thing about EARJ?
GM: The people here, my students and colleagues.
PP: Are you related to Mr. Felipe? Are you BFFs?
GM: Never ever! ... Joking. Mr. Felipe is my good friend, we've known each other for 10 years. He was the one who brought me to EARJ.
PP: What’s your favorite school memory (as a student)?
GM: My chemistry classes.
PP: If you were not a teacher what would you work with?
GM: If I could choose, I"d be a F1 driver, because I like cars and the adrenaline.
PP: Why don't you wear a suit to teach, like Mr.Sitch?
GM: Because I'm a young man, and live below the Equador. I wish I could wear shorts here, here like Mr. Bernardo.
PP: What was the most amazing place you have ever visited?
GM: The Iguaçu Falls, and the Grand Canyon.
PP: Where do you plan on visiting when you have a chance?
GM: I’ve been to so many countries that I don’t even have a specific one; But maybe Finland, Lithuania, and Estonia.
PP: How do people say/ pronounce your name abroad?
GM: I introduce myself as Gerry, with the "G", to make it easier for them. But when they spell it with the G, I tell them it's with the "J".
Who - or what - inspires you?
GM: Intelligent people, in general, inspire me.
What’s your favorite food?
GM: I really like seafood in general.
PP: What’s your favorite sport?
GM: I am a big fan of Motorsports.
PP: What soccer team do you cheer for?
GM: Flamengo. But I'm not much for soccer.
PP: Do you think video games can encourage violence?
GM: No, not at all, that's a misconception; based on Psychologists' reports there is no relation between playing violent games and becoming a violent person whatsoever.
PP: What message would you like to share with EARJ students?
GM: Do your best, be committed.
