Let's end the cycle!

While discussing bullying, people usually think about someone being punched or called harmful names; bullying, however, is much more than that. Bullying is about making someone feel vulnerable, scared of acting, and being themselves, leading people to doubt if they are good enough. We’re prone to bullying. There isn't any law, cure, or punishment to stop it, and there won't be. We are the ones that need to make changes.

A study made by the Canadian Center of Science and Education published an article in 2017 about the impact of school bullying on students' academic achievements from the teacher's point of view. The research concluded that bullying exists in almost every school either governmental or private but at different levels. The research found that school bullying affects academic achievement, either for the victims who suffer from these phenomena or the bullies themselves.

There are several forms of bullying as follows:

  • Physical bullying: such as hitting, slapping, kicking, or forcing to do something.

  • Verbal bullying: verbal abuse, insults, cursing, excitement, threats, false rumors, giving names and titles to individuals, or giving ethnic labels.

  • Psychological bullying: harassment, threats, intimidation, humiliation, and rejection from the group.

  • Bullying in social relations: preventing some individuals from exercising certain activities or rejecting their friendship or spreading rumors about others.

Bullying is real, a serious societal problem. Be aware of signs and symptoms. If you see someone being bullied, talk to an adult and help a friend by lending him/her a hand.
