In a global effort to raise awareness for breast cancer, October was designated as the ‘Pink Month.’ According to the World Health Organization, the Pink Month is a month meant to educate those concerned about the disease and, hopefully, help people identify its symptoms.
The idea for this campaign started in 1990, in the United States, but “its mission has spread worldwide to raise public awareness, especially among women, about the importance of prevention and early diagnosis of breast cancer,” according to the FSB.
All around the globe, various initiatives are taken to raise money for different institutions that aid cancer-driven hospitals - the Pink Marathons, for instance. Hundreds of them happen every year, with its main objective being to support the cause.
"I believe the Pink October campaign is important to promote awareness of the early diagnosis possibility, and encourage women self check" says Mr.Vinnicius, US Portuguese teacher.
