Reading and Transforming Lives

Reading is a fundamental part of the learning process of any child. A book can serve many purposes; from acquiring knowledge to making the imagination go wild, they are vital components of everyday life. Knowing this, two EARJ high school students started the project “Leitura Transforma”. The project aims at improving literacy rates in underprivileged communities, encouraging reading itself, and building and upgrading libraries in nurseries. In order to fulfill these goals, the project will be accepting donations, preferably young children’s books from different genres (all of the books should be in Portuguese and in good condition). The project will be focusing on helping Fundação Casa Santa Ignez, an NGO that aids the education of young children from Rocinha, Vidigal, and Parque da Cidade. Santa Ignez is very close to our Gávea Campus and by helping them out, we are helping the Carioca community. If you are interested in contributing, both monetary and book donations will be accepted. For more information access the project’s Instagram page: @projetoleituratransforma.
