Natasha Jane Winnard, from Leicester in the UK, is EARJ Barra US counselor. She started working at EARJ in 2018, and she is very important to our community because she is a good advisor and a helpful teacher. We can tell that Mrs. Natasha is a really strong and kind person!
PP: Why did you choose to be a counselor?
NW: Because I have always enjoyed learning about the whole student. I don't want to know if the student is good at geography or not. It is called a Holistic approach.
PP: What was your dream job as a kid?
NW: To be a teacher.
PP: If you were not a counselor, what would you do?
NW: I think I would be an urban planner so I would plan sustainable cities.
PP: Have you ever worked with something else?
NW: I've been a geography teacher for years.
PP: What is the difference between College Counseling and Guidance?
NW: Guidance is supporting students with their social and emotional well being, and College Counseling is helping students to think about the careers and colleges they may be interested to pursue after school.
PP: When you were a student, what was your favorite subject?
NW: Geography and Economics.
PP: When you were a student, did you used to have good grades and a balanced life as you advise us to? NW: Yes, I had very good grades, because I was very hard working, and my lifestyle was very balanced most of the time.
PP: Do you have kids?
NW: I have a son, his name is George, and he is 13.
PP: Are you very strict in terms of grades with your son?
NW: That depends. As long as he does his best, I will be proud of him. If he gets 80%, and he did his 100% best effort, then, of course, I will be proud of him.
PP: How will you react when your son starts dating? Are you a jealous mom? NW: Well, I think I will be fine, because I am not a jealous person, and at his age, I started dating as well. I have no concerns.
PP: What are your hobbies?
NW: I like pilates, swimming, I love going out to restaurants. I really like Japanese and Thai food. I love spending time with my friends and family and traveling.
PP: What is your favorite animal? Would you have it as a pet? NW: I love my two golden retrievers, but I think that my favorite is a baby elephant, and I would only have a baby elephant if I lived for example, in Kenya, and have a lot of land.
PP: Do you speak any other languages?
NW: I speak French, and a little bit of Arabic.
PP: How do you like Rio? NW: I absolutely love Rio.
PP: Do you miss living in your hometown?
NW: Not really, because I have the lucky chance to visit my hometown 1-2 times every year.
PP: What is the most wonderful place you have ever visited? NW: A private island in the Philippines
Be the best you can be. It’s about effort,
and not about your grades. Be caring, respectful, and responsible.
Every single EARJ student is special in their own way.
