The Rise of AI

ChatGPT is a language processing model developed by OpenAI in 2022. It is an artificial intelligence system generated to provide concise and human-like responses to many prompts. It can be used for various natural language processing tasks, such as language translation, text summarizing, and question-answering. It has gained attention for its ability to generate coherent and contextual accurate responses in a conversational setting, which has led to its use in chatbots and other conversational AI applications.


However, many educators debate whether ChatGPT is a valuable tool that aids the generation of knowledge or whether it is simply stripping away student individualities and perspectives. For example, the introduction above was partially written by ChatGPT. With the rapidly evolving technology, AI tools such as ChatGPT will become increasingly difficult to detect, possibly making it a normalized aspect of literature and knowledge. Having the effortless option to enter a detailed prompt and have it responded to by an “all-knowing” AI will become a prominent tool students use to lessen their efforts. It is human nature to procure the most assuring and facilitated method consistently. Thus, artificial intelligence will undoubtedly become a notable aspect of our society.


Moreover, with the increase in usage of ChatGPT, the originality and style of literature would be diminished to a single format. Literature thrives on experience and perspective; thus, since artificial intelligence (currently) remains alienated from human consciousness, the language style for each prompt is quite similar. Students who use ChatGPT would integrate this aspect into their lives, corrupting any form of critical thinking and imagination. Since AI can generate poetry and short stories, that mechanism could potentially replace journalists, authors, and many more careers requiring an insightful form of thinking, as stated in the article “The College Essay is Dead.”


Nonetheless, all arguments relating to AI agents are on the pure basis of “what ifs,” as we have yet to see the actual effect of ChatGPT. Students could use ChatGPT to enhance their knowledge of particular subjects and interpret them in their manner. It could promote the student’s interest in various areas, influencing them to pursue their curiosity. ChatGPT could become another source of guidance, shaping the students’ perspective. It will become an essential aspect of society, hence, it is only a matter of time to accept it.
