On February 4th of 2022, the Beijing Winter Olympics began. For those who do not know, the winter Olympics are the Olympic games that take place in a remarkably snowy area to broadcast a variety of winter Olympic sports. Notable examples of such sports include figure skating, snowboarding, skiing, and hockey - but there are fifteen different disciplines in total.
Unfortunately, Brazil tends to not do too well during the winter Olympics due to the country's lack of the typical "white winter." The most successful countries in the competition are Norway, the United States, and Germany. This year, however, the United States placed fourth in terms of gold medals behind the People’s Republic of China and Germany with 15 and 25 medals respectively.
Just like in the summer Olympics, there are several decorated Olympians, such as a Norwegian cross-country skier named Marit Bjørgen. She has a total count of 15 medals, the most out of anyone in recorded history.
The winter Olympics are undoubtedly entertaining to watch, especially with the great amount of seemingly unknown sports that are broadcasted in a fun and competitive atmosphere. While most of us can't wait for the next summer Olympics, its winter counterpart can serve as a good replacement for now.
