This November, MS and HS students will start different Art and Science courses that rotate every. trimester.
Besides their elective classes, students in grades 6 to 8 attend Art, Music and Drama lessons. The idea is to allow middle schoolers to alternate, experience and discover their interests, which will become practical within their high school years. Students are given the opportunity to try each elective, and gain background knowledge through the classes. 10th grader Jennifer Cheng says "the MS Art rotation helped me discover what I'm truly passionate about. I was able to experience a little bit of every class which allowed me to understand my interests".
High school students go through something similar with their Science and Brazilian Social Studies classes. Pre-IB students, 9th and 10th graders, have a trimester of Biology, Chemistry and Physics, each. Brazilian students must complete Philosophy, Sociology and Geography courses that also rotate.
"The rotation allows studefits to taste a little bit of the IB program in the hard sciences, which I am sure helps them in their final decisions as to what course they are going to enroll in" says Mr. Felipe Portilho, IB Physics teacher.
IB students don't rotate as they must complete two full years of the Science DP courses chosen, Biology, Chemistry or Physics.
