It appears the earth is now sending risky pictures to aliens. Although sharing nude images with potential ETs may seem bizarre, it has the valuable function of making contact with life outside our world. Of course, this is not all there is to it. Sending photos of naked humans to other lifeforms beyond our solar system is not the objective here, only a means to it.
First of all, what's going on? Nasa scientists revealed a study detailing their project, 'Beacon in the Galaxy' (BITG), that answers this question. According to the paper, the main objective of the BITG project is to beam a message to any possible alien civilizations using binary language. Scientists believe this form of communication to be 'likely universal across all intelligence,' which is why it was chosen. Unsolicited nudes are not the only thing we are sending out into the universe, though: scientists are also beaming information regarding the biochemical composition of life on earth, a time-stamped location of the Solar System concerning globular clusters, a pixelated map of the solar system, and our planet's surface in much the same style as the pictures of the humans.
Overall the BITG project is only sending out information that is, in a general sense, not susceptible to change by human advancements. Therefore the sent messages are an excellent showcase of transmission and will most likely be used if we find more evidence of alien life in the Milky Way in the future. The real question is, should we even send it? To answer this, I suggest searching up on the Fermi paradox and the Dark Forest theory for reflection on Aliens and our interactions with them. Other than that, rest easy knowing our species has scientifically sent out nudes into outer space for research.
