Young Climate Activist Fights for Action

Updated: Sep 26, 2022

During the 2019 September Climate Action Summit 16 year old, Greta Thunberg, talked about her frustrations with her absence of school and how she should not be up there debating with adults. This video blew up online and lead to her becoming viral on the internet.

"How dare you? You have stolen my dreams and my childhood, and yet | am one of the lucky ones." What Greta means by this is that she thinks older generations believe that every poor global decision they make will be fine, because by the time they die we, the younger generations (Millenials and Gen-Z) will be the ones that have to deal with it. And this is where Greta's frustrations come from and that is what she is expressing here.

This belief that everything will be fine and that this is not my problem is a very popular way of lazy thinking and has plagued us all of the time. Politicians do it, Gigantic Corporations do it, and all the most powerful people do it. So what is to take from this video? That no matter what others think, do or act, we must contribute in our own ways to the problem at hand: climate change. Whether it's simply picking up some trash that's on the floor while you are at a rock concert, or simply trying to save a little more water the next time you shower. Contributing just a little bit can make great strides towards saving the world.
